Lumen5 is a smart video creation tool. Companies love Lumen5 because it allows them to produce high-quality video at scale by utilizing their existing blog content. Lumen5 is used by over 200k companies, including Blizzard Entertainment, Kaspersky, Oxfam, Adidas, and Yamaha.

We’re working on some very interesting technical challenges using search, video and machine learning, which means we’re hiring the brightest developers.

We’re looking for a backend developer with a special experience in search - someone who’s not afraid of search engine internals, optimizing for relevancy, and indexing unstructured data.

What You’ll Do
  • Improve media search and recommendations relevancy with feature extraction, boosting, query design, and testing
  • Collaborate with developers and data scientists to build preprocessing pipelines, evaluation frameworks, and new features
  • Work as part of a small, high-velocity team
  • Write high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code
  • Collaborate with other developers and designers to take features all the way from ideas to something thousands of people use daily


  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • Prior work on search relevance and information retrieval projects
  • In-depth knowledge of search engine(s): Elasticsearch or Lucene/Solr
  • Experience with frameworks and tools such as Spark, Hadoop/MapReduce, Kafka
  • 3+ years of professional experience building scalable search systems
  • Experience with non-trivial Python (Django), Postgres, and RabbitMQ deployments
  • Comfortable with cloud services such as AWS and GCE
